Samantha Grobbel Narratives--A One-Woman Exhibition

Recent and past work by Taylor Artist, Samantha Grobbel will be on display at Taylor Yoga Studio (8935 Telegraph Road in Taylor, MI) beginning November 11, 2011. Work will include paintings, drawings and photography, many of which will be available for sale along with some limited-edition prints of her work.

Join us for the opening reception on Friday 11.11.11 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. to view the work of this young emerging Taylor artist who is a Congressional Art Show winner and Leo Kushel Emerging Artist Award winner. Samantha

Swing into Spring--the Fifth Annual Big Band Ball

This year, the Big Band Ball is BIG! With its return to Taylor at Taylor Meadows on Saturday, March 26, 2011, we're planning to celebrate the Big Band Ball's fifth birthday in style. Larry Huntington-Focus Big Band will once again, provide the musical entertainment with its 14-piece swing/big band orchestra and local talent, Girls' Night Out will provide musical entertainment during dinner. A silent auction will also take place the night of the event and all proceeds go towards supporting the Taylor Cultural Arts Foundation and its programs and events including the annual scholarship program for high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in any creative field.

Tickets: $45/per person for the full evening; $20/per person for dancing and dessert only. To order tickets visit the Taylor Golf, Parks & Recreation Department on Goddard Road or call Kuschel Studios at (734) 287-6318.

Taylor Community Chorus Sings in the Season with the Annual Christmas Concert

The Taylor Community Chorus will perform its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the William D. Ford Senior Center.

Directed by Mark Ennis and comprised of voices from all around the Downriver community, the chorus will perform seasonal favorites at the annual Taylor Community Chorus Christmas concert. Make your Thanksgiving weekend complete and usher in the Christmas season with the delightful sounds of this Taylor (and Downriver) seasonal favorite.



You will get to spend an evening enjoying some of your favorite holiday tunes with the Taylor Community Chorus Sunday, November 28 at the William D. Ford Senior Center at 7 p.m. The William D. Ford Senior Center is located at 6750 Troy. Tickets are only $5.00 per person and are on sale now. 2010 Annual Cultural Arts Scholarship for Graduating High School Seniors

The Taylor Cultural Arts Commission is proud to announce the continuation of our scholarship program for graduating seniors who are intending to pursue study in the cultural arts or in art-related fields of study. Criteria to apply and scholarship information is listed below. If you have any questions in regards to this program, please contact Mark Ennis at 313-291-7893.
Number of Scholarships: 1
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Application Deadline: Postmarked by May 1, 2010
Criteria:
1. You must be a graduating senior.
2. You must be a Taylor resident, but can attend a high school outside the district.
3. You must be entering a field related to the arts including dance, music, theatre, fine arts or any other field related to the arts.
4. You must provide a portfolio on CD or other media (such as DVD or photographs) of your work.
5. You must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
6. Three letters of recommendation are required. At least one must be from a teacher in the visual, performing or creative arts.
7. You must submit a short essay that is no longer than two double-spaced pages with one-inch top, bottom, left and right margins, in a standard font such as Arial or Time New Roman and no larger than 12 point and no smaller than 10 point. In the essay include information about your goals and ambitions.
8. Submit all documentation and support documentation postmarked no later than May 1, 2010 to:

Swing into Spring at the 4th Annual Big Band Ball

Swing into Spring with us at the TCAC's Fourth Annual Big Band Ball on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

The TCAC/FOA annual Big Band Ball is one of our most-anticipated and premiere events. The Big Band Ball ushers in the Spring arts season with a festive evening of a sit-down dinner, dancing, a silent auction and live entertainment featuring Larry Huntington & the Skyliners’ and the hit local duo Girls’ Night Out.

Tickets are $35/person for seniors (55+) and Students with i.d.; $45/individual; $80/couple. Tickets are on sale now! Purchase tickets by cash or check by calling the Taylor Parks & Recreation Offices at (734) 374-3906 or in person by visiting the Recreation Center at 22805 Goddard Road in Taylor during normal business hours Monday-Friday. Saturday Morning Life Drawing Sessions Winter/Spring 2010

Hone your drawing skills of the human form Saturday mornings at the Taylor Rec. Center (22805 Goddard Rd.). Bring your art supplies and spend three hours drawing from life with live, clothed models Saturday mornings January 9, 2010 through May 29, 2010. The fall 2009 program was such a hit, that it's being continued into spring 2010.

Note: Saturday Morning Life Drawing Sessions are not held the first Saturday of the month.

Fee: $7 per session/per person.

TCAC Dinner Theater presents: My Way a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra

The Taylor Cultural Arts Commission and the Friends of the Arts is pleased to present My Way, a musical tribute to Sinatra, which re-creates the legend, life and times of ol' blue eyes as expressed by his best-known works. This dinner theater will be at the Beautiful Senior Center in Taylor, MI. Tickets are Dinner/show $30, show only $18. Limited seating, member & group discounts available.

A "Free" evening of Music, Food and Art. Celebrating the American Automobile with original artwork by local artists using Car Parts as their medium. These items will be on display during our Juried Art Gallery on Friday evening, June 12t, from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. in the Art Pavilion in Heritage Park. Then they will be auctioned off during our Cruisin' for the Arts car show on Sunday June 14th during the City of Taylor's Art in the Park at Heritage Park

Techno Night * So you wanna be a DJ?

This educational experience of the art will take place Saturday, April 25, 2009 We have combined forces to put together an event that will impact the lives of children aged 14-20.
When students arrive they will enter into a music-style venue set where there will be lights, fog, strobes and of course a local Dj mixing the favorites.This area will be filled with local trade schools, colleges and universities to show students the steps needed to prepare for a future in a career in the arts, and local mixers, Dj’s and entertainers giving them a hands on experience of a life time.
